چکیده

To match the expected experimental precision at future linear colliders, improved theoretical predictions beyond next-to-leading order are required. At the anticipated energy scale of √ s = 1 TeV the electroweak virtual corrections are strongly enhanced by collinear-soft Sudakov logarithms of the form log(s/M2), with M being the generic mass scale of the W and Z bosons. By choosing an appropriate gauge, we have developed a formalism to calculate such corrections for arbitrary electroweak processes. As an example we consider in this letter the process e+e− → f f̄ and study the perturbative structure of the electroweak Sudakov logarithms by means of an explicit two-loop calculation. In this way we investigate how the Standard Model, with its mass gap between the photon and Z boson in the neutral sector, compares to unbroken theories like QED and QCD. In contrast to what is known for unbroken theories we find that the Sudakov logarithms are not exclusively given by the so-called rainbow diagrams, owing to the mass gap and the charged-current interactions. In spite of this, we nevertheless observe that the two-loop corrections are consistent with an exponentiation of the one-loop corrections. In this sense the Standard Model behaves like an unbroken theory at high energies. Subleading Sudakov Logarithms in Electroweak Processes *

Recent results for the asymptotic behavior of fermion scattering amplitudes in the Sudakov limit are presented including next-to-leading logarithmic corrections. These are used for the analysis of the dominant electroweak corrections to the fermion-antifermion pair production in e + e − annihilation at high energy.

Two-loop electroweak Sudakov logarithms for massive fermion scattering

We study the asymptotic behaviour of two-loop electroweak corrections at energies Q2 ≫ M2 W, where logarithms of the type ln(Q2/M2 W) become dominant. The calculation of the leading and next-to-leading logarithmic terms for massless and massive fermion-scattering processes is summarized. The derivations are performed diagrammatically within the spontaneously broken electroweak theory. We find t...

Soft Gluon Resummation in Transverse Momentum Space for Electroweak Boson Production at Hadron Colliders

The distribution of W and Z bosons produced with small transverse momentum (pT) at hadron colliders receives important contributions from large logarithms arising from soft gluon emission. Although conventionally the all-orders resummation of these ‘Sudakov’ logarithms is performed in impact parameter (Fourier transform) space, pT-space resummation is also possible, and offers certain advantage...

The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) will study processes at energies √ s much larger than the masses of the W and Z bosons. Radiative (Sudakov) corrections to such processes contain logarithms L = log(s/M W,Z), and one gets two factors of L for each order in perturbation theory [1]. At LHC energies, these Sudakov corrections are not small — a typical electroweak correction αL/(4π sin θW ) ∼ 0.15 at...
